The Windows Phone 8 SDK leaking means a lot of articles detailing what is inside. While there doesn’t appear to be a “notification center” coming to Windows Phone 8 this is quite a step up from what is in Windows Phone 7.X. In Windows Phone 8, 3 rd party apps will be able to integrate with the lockscreen with you having the ability to customize what shows up there as well.
Developers will only be able to use a 24×24 white icon with the tile count and text taken from the apps live tile. The documentation says that you will have the ability to control what shows up there.
In Windows Phone 8 Developer Preview, end users can choose to customize this area with any third party apps they choose. As a developer, you can enable your app to be used in this feature.
You will also have the ability to choose an app as the lockscreen background. This will give way to being able to set wallpapers that change as the background. Bing wallpaper of the day anyone?
