Foursquare has been teasing the all new 4sq all week and today the new design launches. Only available for iOS and Android, version 5 of Foursquare continues their push towards being a “Yelp” style app and less of a “pure check-in” app. As you can see from the screen-shots, the focus is on more of a visual layout.
When you launch the app, you get a quick “welcome to the new foursquare” splash screens. Once you’ve tapped through those, you are presented with the first signs of the redesign. As you can see there is a focus on pictures, if you have decided to include a picture. You can see where I check in, I included a picture of my dogs. (They are so cute!)
As you can see above, this is the redesigned Explore Tab. Once again with the focus on pictures from the individual venues for check in specials in particular.
Here is the new Me Tab. As you can see here, it’s really been toned down. You can dive down into each section, there are six of them, to view additional information about friends, badges, tips, stats, etc.
Overall the update is a sleek one and is only available for iOS and Android. Blackberry will be available in a few week. I expect Jeff Wilcox, author of 4th & Mayor to incorporate a redesign before Foursquare gets around to updating the Foursquare app for Windows Phone. Links can be found below.
