Impending Facebook Messenger update to enable iPad support and add video calling

Any impending update to Facebook for any platform is always seen as a good thing. So news of Facebook Messenger for iOS gaining video calling support is welcome news. It was last summer that Facebook and Skype set out on a partnership to enable video calling between computer and computer via facebook.com.

The screenshot above is courtesy of Techit, and shows that video calling does in fact exist within the app but has not been enabled. The testing of this new app is apparently in private beta and will be announced in the coming months.

As you can see from the screenshot of above, Facebook Messenger takes advantage of the iPad screen real estate, even if it doesn’t do it very well. You can see that there is a lot of wasted space that could be utilized better. That’s not the only thing that Facebook is planning to do in the near future. Facebook is also rumored to be filling for IPO on May 18th.
